Responsible Dog Ownership Day
RDOD 2011 was another success! Click here to read a bit about some of the many highlights from the day.
Every September dog clubs across the nation host Responsible Dog Ownership Day (RDO Day) events that focus on what it means to be a responsible dog owner.
The Peninsula Dog Fanciers’ Club has been hosting RDO Day events since 2007. Each year our event has grown to include more activities, more dogs, and more fun! Our 2008 RDO Day was recognized with an Honorable Mention for the AKC Community Achievement Award and the 2007 RDO Day and Agility Trial was mentioned in the AKC News!
In year’s past we have had lots of Meet the Breed booths where you can talk to owners and breeders of various dog breeds of all shapes and sizes, from little Dachshunds to huge Great Danes! It’s a great way to learn about different breeds if you’re interested in getting a new dog or if you just like to make a lot of new four-legged (and two-legged) friends!
The dogs aren’t limited to the Meet the Breed booths– just because a breed isn’t represented in a booth doesn’t mean that they won’t be at the event! The public is encouraged to bring their own well-behaved and leashed dogs, and there are usually a few dogs hanging out with our vendors!
Some of the demonstrations and activities we have featured at past RDO Days include: CGC testing, demonstrations by the local K9 Police and Army units, Dachshund races, costume contests, dancing with your dog demonstrations, raffles, booth decorating contests, dog performers, obedience demonstrations, “how to approach strange dogs” demonstrations… and the list goes on!
