We’re on Facebook!!

Meet the Breed 2009

“Like” our page to stay up-to-date with the club’s activities and events and to connect with other dog-lovers in the community! You can log in to your account and search for Peninsula Dog Fanciers’ Club… or just click on the Facebook “like” button in the right-hand sidebar. It’s that easy!

We already have photos posted from a few of our past events, including our 2011 Responsible Dog Ownership Day we held in September, and links to our recent blog posts.

The PDFC Dog Show, Responsible Dog Ownership Day, scholarships, and other contributions (to the Kitsap County 4-H, Fairgrounds, Sheriff’s Department, and more) will cease to be realities without support from the community we aim to serve. So please, “like” us on Facebook, stay informed, and get involved.

It’s not too far away…

We are gearing up for the Peninsula Dog Fanciers’ Club’s 2012 All Breed Dog Show, Obedience and Rally Trials! The weekend of March 24-25, 2012 will be here before we know it!

A Dog's Life

Would you like to be a part of making the 2012 Show another success? Here are just a few ways you can get involved…

    •  Become a member! There’s a lot that goes into putting on a fun, successful dog show and none of it is possible without the hard work of members behind the scenes. (And don’t forget our September Responsible Dog Ownership Day!)
    • Donate or sponsor trophies! The donation/sponsorship information must be included in the show’s Premium so we need it ASAP. (You can donate/sponsor Best in Show, Group placements, Obedience or Rally placements, High in Trial, High Combined, or Breed trophies, including Best of Breed, Winner’s Bitch, Winner’s Dog, Best of Winners, and/or Best of Opposite.)
    • Be a Ring Steward! Ring stewarding can be a lot of fun–it is one of my favorite things to do at the show! If you’ve never done it before but are interested in learning how, that’s ok! We can pair you with someone to teach you the ropes! (Some experience with how dog shows work is recommended.)
    • Be a vendor! The show vendors are by invitation only, but let us know if you are interested in case we have space!
    • Be a spectator! Dog shows are great places to meet dogs and their owners, learn a bit more about breeds you might be interested in owning one day, and to check out some of the activities you can become involved in (remember–there are obedience and rally classes for All American Dogs now, too!). Plus it’s just fun to see so many different dogs in one place!

Fun at RDO Day 2011

The Peninsula Dog Fanciers’ Club Responsible Dog Ownership Day event was another success. Where last year we had to deal with rain and drizzle, this year we had the sun and heat to deal with. At least we were dry!

The heat gave us a great opportunity to demonstrate what might happen to your pets if they were left in your vehicle during a summer day.

RDOD2011-3

We set up two situations: a pansy without ventilation (under an aquarium) and one with (under an aquarium propped up for air flow). There were thermometers under each of the aquariums as well as outside the aquariums so we could document the heat differences throughout the day.

RDOD2011-13

The pansies were placed under the aquariums at about 10am. Both looked quite happy and healthy. But by 1pm the “control” temperature reached 101 degrees F. The un-vented pansy reached a temperature of 134 degrees F and was looking very sad and droopy. The vented pansy, at 114 degrees F, was still holding strong but slightly withered around the edges.

At the end of the day, the un-vented pansy (the purple one) was completed flattened. The vented pansy was still looking ok, but needing a good dowse of water if it was too survive.

It was a great way to see the effects of the hot sun beating down on an enclosed space. Hopefully people were able to take home the message that it is not good to leave their pets in the car!

We also had great herding demonstrations by PDFC Member Noel Ritter…
